This resource helps family members to understand how guardianship works, what alternatives to guardianship are available, and why alternatives should be considered. The manual breaks down discrete areas of support vs. autonomy and self-determination, to help identify with the person needing support different areas of need and focus. It includes tools a "Stoplight Tool," comprising a chart with green, yellow and red to assist in identifying areas of greater/lesser support needs in health, wellness, daily living, relationship building, and money management. Further information is available at the website, moguardianship.com, which was developed through the Alternatives to Guardianship Project, a collaboration between the UMKC-Institute for Human Development, UCEDD; the Missouri Developmental Disabilities Council, Missouri Protection & Advocacy Services, and the Missouri Department of Mental Health.
